New Segment Presentation effective Third Quarter 2005
Effective September 30, 2005, American Express Company ("the Company") realigned its segment presentation to reflect the spin-off of Ameriprise Financial, Inc. (Ameriprise), formerly known as American Express Financial Corporation. The new segments are: U.S. Card Services, International Card & Global Commercial Services, Global Network & Merchant Services, and Corporate & Other. A full description of the new segments can be found in the Form 8-K filed with the SEC October 17, 2005. Financial and other information reflecting the realignment of the Company's segments is attached to the aforemention Form 8-K as Exhibit 99.1, and can be accessed through the link above.
Consolidated Five-Year Summary of Selected Financial Data
Extracted from the 2004 Annual Report; provides a five year presentation of key financial and non-financial metrics for the Consolidated entity.
Revision of Securitization Revenue Reporting
Beginning in the first quarter of 2002, the Company revised its presentation of Consolidated and Travel Related Services (TRS) revenues on a GAAP basis to better highlight the impact of securitizations. This filing provides financial information for 1999, 2000, and 2001 reflecting the change.
Common Share Statistics Adjusted for 3-for-1 Stock Split (distributed May 10, 2000)
Provides a five year historical presentation of adjusted Common Share statistics impacted by the 3-for-1 stock split in 2000, including earnings per share (basic and diluted), cash dividends declared per share, book value per share, market price per share, and common shares outstanding (average and ending).
Restatement of Segment Information Effective Third Quarter 2000
Beginning in the third quarter of 2000, the Company's Travelers Cheque (TC) operations, which had been included in the American Express Bank/Travelers Cheque (AEB/TC) segment since the first quarter of 1998, were included in the Travel Related Services (TRS) segment to reflect organizational changes. This filing on Form 8-K provides a historical restatement of financial information for 1998, 1999 and the first two quarters of 2000 to reflect a) the reported TRS segment and the restated TRS segment, including the TC business, b) the new reporting AEB segment which excludes the TC business, c) the old AEB /TC segment, as originally reported, and d) restatement of certain financial information by segment.
